How the composite veneer process works

While we can place your composite veneers in a single appointment, our cosmetic dentists often take a multi-step approach: we design the custom smile you want and preview it with simulations before treatment begins.

Key takeaways about the composite veneer procedure

  • Pain-free treatment
  • Minimally invasive procedure that’s reversible
  • Often requires no drilling or injections
  • Takes a few hours to place a full set
  • Applied chairside and hand-sculpted by a dentist
  • Preview the results before we set them in place
  • Trial smile designed and approved by you

The entire process is broken down into steps

The initial assessment and planning

The first step is to meet with our cosmetic dentist, Dr Ali Rifai, to determine whether you’re a suitable candidate for composite veneers and whether they’ll fit your bite and expectations. In this consultation, we’ll explore shape, shade, positioning and your goals for the results.

Before any dental work commences, we’ll design and build a wax mock-up on a plaster model so you can see a trial smile of the results. This stage will help you visualise the shape and layout of your new smile, allowing you to preview the results and make any changes you like. We’ll keep modifying the mock-up until you’re completely happy.

If you’re planning to blend composite veneers with your existing natural teeth and want them a couple of shades lighter, we can whiten your teeth in advance to ensure your veneer shade matches the rest of your smile.

Our cosmetic dentist, Dr Rifai, will hand-sculpt layers of composite resin over your existing teeth to create the planned ideal shape and size. It usually takes 30-60 minutes per tooth.

To prepare your tooth for application, the tooth surface will be cleaned, lightly prepared and treated with a bonding agent.

We’ll then turn our attention to the small details that make a smile look natural, make fine adjustments, polishing and contouring to refine the look and achieve the right smoothness and alignment.

Once the veneers are polished and in place, we’ll check your bite to ensure everything feels balanced and comfortable. If there’s an issue, we can make minor tweaks on the spot to ensure correct function and beautiful results.
