Tooth extraction costs

The cost of tooth extraction will vary depending on the type of tooth we’re removing, the reason for the removal and whether it’s a simple or more complex surgical extraction.

The more complicated the removal, the longer your procedure will take, and a certain level of dental expertise will be needed, so complex extractions will cost more than your typical tooth removal case. On average, patients can expect costs from £205 to £475.

Emergency appointments

If you believe you need a tooth extracting immediately, or are in extreme pain, book an emergency appointment at our clinic, where same-day appointments are possible.

Located in Weybridge, our dentists can help prioritise your comfort and well-being, and if we cannot extract your tooth that day, we will ensure you leave the practice feeling more comfortable. Same-day appointments cost £196 and cover whatever treatment is required to relieve pain. Book online.

How to book

With MyoDental, you can book online for specific dental treatments. Still, tooth extraction is not one of them – this is because, if you’re not a regular patient of ours, where we’ve not recommended a tooth extraction, we’ll first need to conduct an oral examination to understand the reason behind the removal and the best action to take.

Whether you’re a patient of ours or unregistered, you can book a check-up for £65 online. Book here.

Your guide to tooth extractions at MyoDental

A patient’s guide to tooth extraction and what it involves…

  • Persistent tooth pain caused by heavy decay
  • A severely damaged, broken or cracked tooth
  • Wisdom teeth problems like impacted wisdom teeth
  • For orthodontic reasons like overcrowding or too many teeth
  • Failed root canal procedure and not wanting re-treatment

The procedure sounds painful – but it’s not, and as it’s carried out under local anaesthetic, you won’t feel a thing.

However, you can expect to feel some pressure and hear noises.

The procedure steps:

  • The dentist will inject local anaesthetic to numb the site effectively
  • They’ll then begin to loosen the tooth with a dental instrument
  • The tooth will then be removed using forceps
  • We’ll clean and disinfect the socket
  • Dental bone grafts might be placed to prevent bone loss
  • The gums are stitched back up to promote healing

Typically, you won’t need to take time off work, but depending on the extent of your extraction, the dentist can advise further whether it would be beneficial to take it easy and rest at home for a day or two.

The length it will take our dentists in Weybridge to remove your tooth will depend on its location and whether it’s a straightforward process or a more complex removal, as seen in impacted wisdom teeth cases.

Typically, standard extractions take around 1 hour at our practice and do not always require a follow-up appointment if aftercare instructions are followed and you face no complications.

  • Patients can expect certain levels of discomfort once the anaesthesia wears off
  • Swelling and bruising coming out on the second day are normal
  • Difficulty opening your mouth wide within the first few days
  • Stitches in the gum can expect to dissolve within 2-4 weeks
  • Patients are recommended to eat soft foods following the procedure

Specific aftercare instructions will be provided before and after your appointment so you can aid the recovery process as best as possible. Aftercare instructions the NHS recommends.

A wisdom tooth removal will involve extracting 1 or more teeth at the back of your mouth because they’re causing you problems.

For example, as they develop later than other teeth, they might start to emerge but not have enough room in your mouth to accommodate them.

In dentistry, when another tooth blocks wisdom teeth, we refer to this as impacted wisdom teeth, or, for example, when they’re partly covered by the gums, which, in turn, causes the patient immense pain.

A wisdom tooth extraction typically takes around 40 minutes to complete. It can be carried out chairside at our practice, or in some cases, depending on complexity, you might be referred to a specialist.

Why you might need wisdom teeth removed:

  • Impaction that causes nerve and bone damage
  • Crowding of other teeth, causing them to misalign
  • Sinus issues

Tooth extractions for nervous patients

If you’re a nervous or phobic patient, we completely understand that you might want to avoid this kind of dental procedure or even delay it.

Even the thought of sitting in the dental chair and being injected with local anaesthetic might feel too much for you.

But don’t worry, if you need extra help, for example, using dental sedation, we have two incredible options to help you feel relaxed and at ease.

One such example is inhalation sedation, which uses gas and air, is needle-free and will still permit you to drive home afterwards.

Ways to pay:

  • Dental insurance (check your coverage)
  • 0% dental finance over 3, 6, 10 and 12 months
  • Part deposit, then full payment after treatment
