Myobraces straighten teeth without braces

Guide to Myobraces - worn just one hour per day

Myobraces are removable orthodontic therapy devices that prevent and correct crooked teeth in children between the ages of 6 and 15. They were designed as a preventative solution for children with malformed bites and teeth to help reduce the need for braces in the future.

Clinical profile:

  • What it does: It corrects the underlying causes of crooked teeth and bite irregularities, which have been formed from poor oral habits. The preventative treatments help guide the development and alignment of the jaws.
  • How it works: Myobraces guide the teeth and jaw gradually over time using a series of removable appliances, which are worn for 1-2 hours at a time and overnight.
  • Main benefits: Improves oral health by promoting healthy eating habits and addresses any airway dysfunction.
  • Cost: Myobraces cost £2,800 at our clinic and are available at 0% finance over 12 months, requiring a 20% deposit.
  • Additional notes: In addition to wearing the aligners, each patient will undergo one-on-one Myofunctional therapy sessions with qualified practitioners to correct any aberrant habits via nasal breathing by carrying out tongue exercises to correct swallow patterns.

Myobrace FAQs

The length of treatment is dependent on the child’s compliance and their biological ability to change habits, as well as growth patterns. Generally, the earlier treatment is started, the higher the level of success. Suggested treatment time with good compliance is generally two to three years.

Myobrace pre-orthodontic treatment helps your child’s teeth and jaws to grow naturally, to accommodate all their adult teeth. Braces are sometimes used at the end of treatment for a short while if perfect alignment is desired.

Three out of every four children have crowded teeth and incorrectly developing jaws. These are often caused by bad oral habits, including:

During the first few days of treatment there may be a small amount of sensitivity and slight discomfort. However, after the first few days of treatment, this should disappear.

Rather than waiting until all adult teeth are present, early pre-orthodontic assessment is important for optimal facial muscle growth and a healthier smile to prevent more serious dental problems later in life.

Treatment stages for Myobraces

The initial stage of using Myobrace treatment begins with habit correction. We’ll teach your child techniques to help them breathe through their nose instead of the mouth, retrain the tongue to rest in the right position, swallow correctly, and keep lips together when not eating or speaking.

By starting to correct the poor oral habits that cause crooked teeth or poor jaw growth, we’ll give your child the best possible chance to grow their jaws to their right and full size, allowing teeth to come in straighter, often eliminating the need for braces in the future.

Alongside habit correction, we’ll also begin developing the arches to widen the upper jaw and allow enough space for the teeth and tongue to sit. To speed up the treatment process, we can use additional devices, such as the Biobloc or the Farrel Bent Wire System, alongside the Myobrace for children with underdeveloped jaws over 7.

During this stage, the permanent teeth should begin to erupt, and we’ll introduce Myobrace for Teens to align the teeth into their natural spaces.

As they are removable appliances, compliance is essential. The Myobrace must be worn every day and overnight when sleeping. So, to achieve optimal results, you should be confident that you can help motivate your child to co-operate with the programme.

If the teeth need to be aligned further, we can still use braces for a much shorter period of time, combining it with Myobrace for Braces.

The final stage of Myobrace treatment is retention, which ensures that the good oral habits taught are maintained, preventing the need to wear a permanent retainer.

MYO Dental notes results depend on child compliance; with good wear and habit change, treatment is typically 2–3 years, and braces may still be used briefly at the end if needed.

Using a Myobrace - what it's like to wear

The Myobrace treatment includes a removable appliance that looks like a mouthguard. This needs to be worn for an hour or two during the day and while sleeping every night for the duration of the treatment.

While wearing the appliance, your child is encouraged to work on a series of short exercises that focus on breathing, position of their tongue, swallowing, and lip and cheek exercises.

These activities are available on a fun Myobrace app, which we’ll show you how to download during your child’s appointment at our Weybridge clinic.

By targeting the causes of crooked teeth, your child’s mouth and jaw are able to develop naturally, without the aid of braces.

Myobrace as early, non-invasive orthodontics for children (typically 6–12, designed 6–15) to address the causes of crooked teeth and bite issues.
